We actually have used these. Our outdoor forklifts have little 50w solar panels on them to keep the batteries charged. The solar charge controllers went through seasons of harsh northeast weather with no issues. Of course, we recommend using an in-line fuse between any controller and your batteries. In this case a 10a fuse would work great.

To stay within reasonable spec limits 1x 100w 12v solar panel to charge a 12v battery or 2x 100w 12v solar panels in series to charge a 24v battery would likely be best for pairing with one of these.

#1 FAQ - How many watts of solar panels can I have connected to this?

Answer: If you are charging a 12.8v lifepo4 battery at 14.6v multiply 14.6v by 10a. That would be 146w max solar input. A 100w 12v solar panels would work. Or for charging 25.6v lifepo4 batteries at 29.2v you could have up to 292w of solar panels. 2x 100w 12v solar panels in series would work. Also make sure your battery can handle up to 10a continuous charge rate. We recommend using a 10a in line fuse as an added layer of protection between the charge controller and battery.
